It sits inside the October–April window that Egypt Top Tours’ own package pages list as the best season, and it is the month of the Abu Simbel sun alignment on February 22.
Key Takeaways
- Luxor averages 25.1°C / 77°F by day and 7.8°C / 46°F at night in February; Cairo 20.3°C / 69°F and 10.3°C / 51°F.

Crowds and prices in February
February is part of the October–April window our USA packages recommend. Our best-time guide names December and January as the busiest months, so February is outside that peak, but the weather is still cool and dry, so popular cruises and guides still fill early, especially around the Abu Simbel date and any Eid or school-holiday weeks.
Holidays and events in February
- About February 8 – start of Ramadan 2027 (expected). Islamic dates depend on the moon sighting and can move by a day; Egypt’s Dar al-Ifta announces the official date. Some calendars show February 9. The UK FCDO says it is culturally insensitive to eat, drink or smoke in public during daylight in Ramadan, advises checking shop and restaurant opening hours, and warns of erratic driving as people rush home at dusk. Museum and site hours can change: in Ramadan 2024 the Ministry set museums to 9 a.m.–3 p.m. and archaeological sites to 9 a.m.–4 p.m., with Luxor and Aswan sites on normal hours. Hours for 2027 have not been announced.
- February 22 – Abu Simbel sun alignment. The sun reaches the inner sanctuary of the Abu Simbel temple on February 22 and October 22. February 22, 2027 is a Monday. See Abu Simbel.
- Weather delays on the Nile. On February 17, 2026, river navigation at Aswan (floating hotels, dahabiyas and Lake Nasser vessels) was closed by order because of dust-laden wind and poor visibility, so build some flexibility into cruise days.
There is no fixed-date national public holiday in February.
What to pack for Egypt in February
Pack layers: a warm jacket or fleece for mornings and nights (Luxor’s average low is 7.8°C / 46°F), light clothes for midday, sun protection and comfortable shoes. Dress modestly at mosques and in rural areas (UK FCDO advice). See what to pack for Egypt and what to wear in Egypt.
Best things to do in Egypt in February
- Cairo and Giza. A 20.3°C / 69°F average high is comfortable for a full day at the Giza Pyramids and the Grand Egyptian Museum.
- Luxor and Aswan. Highs of 25.1°C / 77°F (Luxor) and 24.8°C / 77°F (Aswan) suit long days at Karnak Temple and Philae Temple; mornings and nights are cool.
- Abu Simbel on February 22. See Abu Simbel; book early if you want to be there for the sun alignment.
- A Nile cruise. Compare Nile cruises between Luxor and Aswan.
